Jeanne Kleinman's
Groups as of May 1, 2009 I presently have openings in three ongoing groups which have been running over a long period of time:
Older Adolescent Group (ages 17-21) This group has been in existence for 2 ½ years. While the group is comprised of young people who have different presenting problems, the common goal for all of them is to work on issues of confidence and competence, as they navigate the challenges of the late teen-age years and strive for independence and autonomy. Social and relationship concerns are tantamount, as are family issues. Most participants have struggled with anxiety and /or depression at some time in their lives, and some have had eating disorders or substance abuse problems. Presently there are several openings. The group is comprised of two seniors (women) in high school who will be graduating (and leaving group) in June, as well as two young men, who have returned from college for various reasons. A third young woman, 20 years old, is hopefully returning to group, after a hiatus caused by a conflict in her college schedule.
Twenty-something Group (ages 24-30) This co-ed group began in October, 2008 and has had a constant membership of its original 6 members. In May, two group members will be moving. I hope to fill their positions sometime early this summer. While most of the group members are high functioning and employed, most are having difficulty with some aspect of adult life: getting “launched’ has its challenges. Much of our time, the discussion deals with relationship issues. This is a psychodynamically-oriented group, with members willing to look at their family patterns as they have impacted their present lives. There is a good deal of “here and now” feedback given and received. Since most members have had some difficulty with anxiety in its many forms, the conversation often turns to our internal dynamics, and the atmosphere has been very positive and supportive.
