Jeanne K. Kleinman, LCSW

A licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), I have counseled adolescents and adults in individual, family and group therapy for over thirty years.

Prior to private practice, my counseling work in public schools set the stage for my life-long interest in providing treatment for young people and their families.  Although I do meet with teen-agers and young adults in individual treatment, I almost always include their families. Since every member of a family impacts the others, a young person is most likely to improve the quality of his/her life, if parents and siblings are involved in understanding and changing what happens in the family. Whenever possible and permitted, I also communicate with school personnel about my clients’ progress and needs, so that we can all collaborate to anticipate and manage whatever stressors are present.

While my earliest experience was with adolescents, my training and experience have shifted over the years. I now also work with adults as the primary client. I do both brief, time-limited work as well as longer-term psychotherapy.

Often, Drs. Susan and Richard Nilson and I work as a team to assist clients/patients in their progress in a thoughtful and respectful way. When appropriate, Dr. Richard Nilson does medication consults for my clients.

Because I especially enjoy bringing people together to learn from each other, I run a number of long-term support and interpersonal therapy groups for people of all ages.(Please click here to read more about my specific groups.)

A graduate of Harvard College, I hold masters degrees from Boston University and the University of Connecticut School of Social Work.  I have an advanced certificate in psychoanalytic treatment.
